An interesting read for teenagers who are after more than just a simple boy meets girl trope!
In terms of the premise, I really enjoyed the discussion surrounding caged animals and morality. Through the use of Sky’s voice, Sherman was able to generate a conversation for teenage and young adult readers to engage in that didn’t come across as too preachy.
In terms of her writing, however, I found the TELLING over SHOWING style a little too much. I am a big believer of letting the reader do some of the work, so it was a difficult for me to reflect on my own (about some of the wider issues concerning animal cruelty and veganism) when I was being told what to believe and how to feel.
Overall, it was a quick read, and I can see quite a few of my students devouring this one!
