really liked it

I really enjoyed the characterization in this 1911 novel, that was featured on NPR's Diane Rehm Show, as this month's Readers Review. Poor (literally) Ethan Frome, married to a domineering hypochondriac. His wife's beautiful cousin is hired to help care for his ailing wife. And, wouldn't you know, Ethan falls in love with her (Mattie). Chapter by little chapter, the reader never gives up hope for a happy ending (at least I didn't). However, as in the case of any true tragedy, the stars just don't align properly, and in the end.....well, you'll have to see how the despair resolves itself.
