Reading historical romance, esp. those set in Scotland, is always a treat. Usually in time travel stories, it's the heroine that gets catapulted, whether forward or backward (Outlander anyone?). This time around it's the hero. Ian blames himself for the death of his men in Afghanistan, and is struggling with PTSD and civilian life when he flips his truck avoiding a young Amish girl with a spooked horse and...dies. Only to be given a strange offer by Fate to save his men by going back in time to 1643 Highland Scotland and prevent a past tragedy that had repercussions all the way forward in modern times. He accepts.

Aila Gordon is about to throw a party that she doesn't have to marry the original Ian Mackay, who died in a drunken stupor...until he mysteriously comes back to life. She finds herself wed to an enemy highlander, a man hellbent on saving her life.

This is an entertaining, fun read with spirited lively characters, sassy dialogue, and the beauty of the Scottish highlands. I love all the complications time travel ensues, and all the hard choices people have to make, so speak or stay silent, to stay or go. I really enjoyed spending time with these characters. Great chemistry between Ian and Aila! They were a great couple to spend time with, and had me right through to the end.
