it was ok

I love watching Downton Abbey, enjoyed the movie Gosford Park and found the novel Snobs to be intriguing and diverting. So I actively sought out something else by Julian Fellowes, but was let down by this one. Very self involved, way too much telling about how things were instead of letting the story tell it. He is clearly completely enchanted with the British class system, despite paying lip service to decrying snobbery and explaining why things had to change, lots of tedious soapbox speeches about what is wrong with other people. But in the end, I did have to finish it (with lots of skimming) so I guess that's something to recommend it.
