The take-home moment from this book:

Rebus stood in the glare of the headlights and read. His eyes widened and his mouth fell open. He read it again, then for a third time, and had to run a hand through his hair to make sure the top of his head hadn’t just blown off. (p. 285)

As a reader of romance fiction, I can't tell you how many times a hero will rake or run his hands through his hair as an expression of consternation or deep thought (something I rarely observe in real life). Rankin gives us one more reason why a man might do this. ;)
