** spoiler alert ** Setting: Washington DC – PI’s rundown office, nice inherited home, Salvini’s business (appraisers and gemologists)

Theme: amnesia and discovery, love

Three Stars of Mithra – love, knowledge and generosity. Persian god of light and wisdom.

Unknown suspect – has an extensive, illegal collection of artistic valuables. He wants the Three Stars of Mithra, and negotiates with the Salvini brothers to substitute facts after their stepsister had valued and validated it for the museum. We know that he feels superior, outside the law; he disfigured/cut Timothy’s face when he failed to return with the diamonds; and that he is after the three women.

Timothy and Thomas Salvini – Bailey’s half brothers, twins, when she realized that they were planning on stealing the diamonds and substituting others, she mails two diamonds to her two friends, separating them – keeping them safe. Thomas got chicken, realizing that Bailey would figure it out, so he made plans to take part of the money and depart… when Timothy found out they fought, Thomas went crazy, and violently killed Timothy – in midst of a thunder storm that put out the lights. Bailey witnessed it, ran, hid, and woke up in a hotel room with amnesia.

Grace Fontaine and M.J.O’Leary - best friends with Bailey – each different… since college.

Bailey Anne James – loved by her mother and father – learned a love of the beautiful things – her father fostered her love of gems – her father died when she was a teen – her mother remarried – he had 2 grown, twin sons – Though they were not unwelcoming, they were not welcoming.

Cade Parris – Born to wealth, did not want to follow in his families’ way, and has become a PI – he likes to solve puzzles… just like Sam Spade. He does his best to stay out of his families way.

Plot –
Cade’s secretary quit, the roof is leaking, he drops the coffee pot, he can’t get the computer to cooperate, and in walks Bailey. And he recognizes her as what is missing in his life.

She can’t remember anything – just woke up in a seedy hotel room… she found his name in the phone book and was nearby. She brings with her a case with a million dollars, and a gorgeous blue diamond. And together they piece things together… mostly with memories that sneak up on her, but that he fans.

And he makes love to her, both surprised that she is a virgin. And he knows he loves her, and he wants desperately for her to love him back. Has a few snits when she doesn't - though she is being resonable and practical, as she does not know her past. And it is well done how he discerns her true character by her actions, and does know her well... ahhhh

And they figure things out, Timothy tries to kill them to get the diamond back and they kill him. They call in the police, and the police are actively looking for her two friends who have the other diamonds. hmmmm
