Ella Sarah wants to wear her pink polka- dot pants, her dress with orange-and green flowers, her purple-and-blue striped socks, her yellow shoes, and her red hat. Her mom, dad, and sister think the outfit is too much. She, however, does not listen to them and wears it anyway. When her friends arrive to her house they are all wearing big hats and crazy outfits.

This is a nicely done picture book. You could use this book with children in pre-school to first grade. Author and illustrator Margaret Chodos- Irvine painted brightly colored pictures. The images are simple and are big enough that children can see them. The book was awarded the Caldecott Honor in 2004.
