liked it
bookshelves: 2008, adults

I liked it, I guess. Parts were a little cloyingly repetitive. The themes were kind of neon-sign obvious (family takes different forms, people have enormous potential, even, oh gosh, money can't buy happiness). I will say in its favor that it certainly elicited emotional responses from me. I liked Perry. Also, Perry's family really upset me--they were excellently crafted horrible characters. I also liked Gary quite a bit.

I found Keith and Cherry a little problematic. The age difference grossed me out. Additionally, I found Keith occasionally annoying. Anyway, this was fine for a summer read. Nothing overly thought-provoking, but it's a decent story.
