Would have given this just one star, as I didn't really enjoy it -- but it's probably a good enough book for young boys; just not right for me. As have most other readers, I loved Haddon's "The Curious Incident of the Dog of the Nighttime," but it's hard to believe this is the same author. This is a children's book plain and simple, and if that's what you're looking for, great. But if you're looking for "more from the author of 'Curious Dog'," then you will probably be disappointed.

My sister also recommended this book to me -- but she is listening to it on CD and is enjoying the child actor doing the reading, so maybe that's the better way to go. Otherwise, there are a lot of better children's books out there that are also good for adults -- I just wouldn't rank Boom! up there with them.
