A dark and twisty story of two broken people

That was dark. That was a dark read. There was a part around the midpoint that nearly caused me to put it down. And I have read some dark stuff without quitting. So, that tells you what you're getting into with this book. Consider that your warning.
That said, I'd characterize this book as more of a dark suspense than anything else. It was an interesting character study of two broken people coming together- one who hid in the dark and embraced his differences, and one who hid in the light by pretending to be something she wasn't. Neither really fit where those around them wanted them to be.
There was suspense in this book. Action. Drama. But most of all, it was about the characters. Their reactions to one another, and how they made each other feel.
If you are able to tolerate dark reads, and are in the mood for a drama-heavy suspense read with complex characters, then I do recommend this book. If you are looking for a steamy romance... keep looking.

TRIGGERS: non-consent, kidnapping, child neglect (primarily emotional), and one additional, less common trigger that I won't list here because it is a spoiler. That said, if you have a trigger not listed you may want to check out some of the reviews that are marked with spoiler warnings as surely one of them will reveal it.
