A surprising good book with great writing.

Charlie is a caper novelist who also supplements his income with the occassional burglary job on the side. He's approached by an American while living in Amsterdam to find the missing two figurines of a three part series. After successfully nabbing the two figurines, he shows back up for his reward only to find his benefactor near death and the third figurine missing.

Following clues and a bizarre story line through Amsterdam, Charlie eventually figures out what's happened and why these plastic figurines are so valuable.

I thought the writing was excellent and the story was intriguing enough to keep me at it. Though the ending seemed to stretch in to eternity, it was a nice wrap up.
