I actually ordered the 2nd in the series and then realized I'd read this one before; however, I needed to re-read it. Although the opening chapter was a bit too grisly for my son, I read on, and it was an engaging read. It's a bit disturbing to read about yet another group of adults who let themselves be bullied by one man into cruel behavior, until a teenager (or 2) come(s) along to show them how to get rid of the bully. But I guess that's what makes this young adult fiction. I can see the appeal.
This fable is set after a war between faerie and the human world. Nature (as in plants and animals) fights against the leftover humanity, but magic, also known as life, is overcoming the negative vibes filling the air. Faeries and humans will have to learn to work together and live peacefully.
