it was amazing
Read 2 times. Last read March 5, 2019 to March 20, 2019.

I LOVED this book, more than I've loved a book in years. When I write "love," I mean I'm rating it with my heart, not my head, though my noodle certainly has no objection to that.

I forced myself to read it really slowly too, like someone savouring a favourite candy, letting it melt in my psyche.

I wish I knew why I loved it so much. It was so simply but epically told. It reminded me a bit of Pearl Buck's The Good Earth, which I loved as a young girl. Maybe my taste hasn't changed since then.

Min Jin Lee seemed to care about her many characters, which made it easy for me to care about them too. Though bad things happen to her characters, they tend to be very noble, likeable people, almost extraordinarily so.

I recommend this book heartily.
