The plot is fairly slow-moving, though I don't count this as a bad thing. The horror comes more from the atmosphere that Hill sets up than anything else. I wish that the protagonist had actually discovered the secret of the Woman in Black himself; he finds out bits and pieces, but is told everything by another character.
Overall, it's a good, Victorian-era ghost story.
