This was a tough read, but well worth it. The odd sentence here or there was quite profound - sometimes even humorous - which at times provided a good distraction from the graphic detail of the rest of the story.

I couldn't read much of it at one time. For one thing, the prose was unusual and takes some getting used to. I read at night, and sometimes I was too tired to figure out who was saying what since there is very little punctuation. Second, the allegory is positively terrifying - even though there is a core of optimism that runs through the book.

I think they're making this into a movie, and they must have toned it down a lot because no one would want to watch a literal translation onto the big screen!

I'm somewhat interested in reading the sequel - Seeing, but not for a few months, at least!

Monica another great book! Yup, the movie is coming out this fall. Seeing was also quite good although different (strange voting patterns and political intrigue. not as hard to get through)
