I just finished my second read through of this book and decided to listen to the audiobook. I've never listened to an audiobook before but decided to go that route because the audibook is narrated by the author herself. Additionally, the novel deals with spoken word poetry and is written in verse, so it felt like an appropriate way to consume the novel. The author, unsurprisingly, had wonderful flow and really made the novel come alive. As a poet myself, I related to Xiomara and how she found her voice through poetry. I also related to growing up and beginning to question my faith. Acevedo really has a way with words and is able to convey a story that feels so real and raw. This book is well deserving of the hype and rewards it has received.
