Story of Rachel who contracts leprosy and is forced to move away from her family to a special area - the thinking was to segregate sufferers. There she is looked after by nuns, her uncle, who was diagosed before she was and his partner. So much sadness as well as survival. Similar issues to those explored in Victoria Hislop The Islandin a European context rather than Hawaii. An incredible character surrounded by similar.
