A retelling of King Lear that’s both tighter by picking up the story mid-way and more convoluted by having to shoehorn background story as a result. The madcap opening chapters are appealing enough, but this becomes a fairly pedestrian retelling that neither does anything original with the source material or uses it in such a way to reflect on how the story plays out in a different context.

If you’re looking for a Lear adaptation that’s much bolder and more inventive, We That Are Young is your go-to.
