Douglas Preston, a writer of thrillers and other books, used to work at the American Museum of Natural History in NYC. This, his first book, explores the collections and museum itself. He cherry picks the most interesting tales, objects and characters for the book, and it's extremely entertaining. You've got insects, meteorites, elephants, native tribes, Arctic exploration, Mongolian bandits, gemstone heists, paleontologist rivalries and lotsa dinosaur bones. Anyone who loves museums of any kind should read this.
