“The Napping House” was one of my favorite childhood books to have read to me before bed. Looking at it now it is still a great book. The illustrations enhance the words of the story. The colors used are perfect for the sleepy atmosphere the story creates. The pictures are also very detailed. It is easy to see all the textures of the different subjects, such as the shagginess of the dog and the soft coziness of the blankets. I suppose this is why the pictures are full bleed while the text is average size, playing a secondary role visually. I like how the pictures change slightly to show that time is passing and that the weather has changed from a heavy rain to a sunny day. Another thing I noticed about the pictures is that our view slowly pans up and above the bed and then back down to the side of the bed again. Over all, this is a great bed time book for kids.
