Beauty. It’s something women have been trying to attain for centuries. And now, with today’s technological advances, beauty treatments are expanding by leaps and bounds. With everything from eyelash tinting to butt implants, people are becoming more obsessed with beauty. But even more profound, is how identity, class and self-worth is connected to it. But what exactly are the key ingredients to being beautiful?

Foyt takes readers on an all-encompassing, full-circle adventure in her second young-adult novel, exploring topics such as identity, beauty and environmental consciousness in “Revealing Eden,” a story that takes place in a treacherously racist, post-apocalyptic world. It is the story of Eden Newman, an almost-eighteen-year-old “Pearl” who will die if she does not find a mate by the time of her birthday, in six months. But when a series of unexpected events take place, Eden’s plans for securing a mate are turned upside down as she is propelled into an unknown world. A world she’s only seen computer-generated images of: the Amazon, what little is left of it, anyway. There, in the thick of the jungle with wild animals and indigenous people, and without her Life Band--a technological device that acts as an all-knowing inner voice, Eden is forced to face her inner demons. If she is to be with the man she loves, she must confront her fears of inadequacy, of ugliness, and let go of everything she’s ever known, and redefine what it truly means to be human.

It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Yet, in order for beauty to exist, the beholder, must first, be found. “Revealing Eden” is a compelling and deeply philosophical exploration into the lessons one must go through in order to find thyself, one’s own inner beauty. A highly relevant book of the time and something that everyone of all ages and “colors” will enjoy.
