Recommended for: readers who aren't afraid of literary heartache

Another outstanding Oprah Book Club selection!

Or was it not a book at all but a beautiful song.

Toni Morrison has a way of ripping your heart out and stomping on it but making you feel glad that she did. Sula was a painful read. Great place. Great characters. The heartache was all too real...the drowning of Chicken, Sula's betrayal of Nel, Nel's grief for Sula. It's not easy stuff to deal with. I hope to read this book again someday. I'm sure I will see it with new eyes the next time.
