really liked it

A great read for middle age ministers (like me!).
This is a pretty uneven book. Some of it is brilliantly insightful. Other parts rather pedestrian.
I would guess mileage varies depends on which particular issues you struggle with:
Cynicism
Compromise
Disconnection
Irrelevance
Pride
Burnout
Emptiness

Worth reading for his chapter on Cynicism:
"Cynicism begins not because you don’t care but because you do care. It starts because you poured your heart into something and got little in return.

Most cynics are former optimists.

Of all people on earth, Christians should be the least cynical. After all, the gospel gives us the greatest reasons to hope."

The antidote to cynicism? Curiosity. "the curious are always interested, always hopeful, and always open to new possibilities…still exploring, still thinking, still open, still wondering… fully alive."

"Curiosity is a discipline" A habit you can cultivate. "Pick up a book on a subject you know nothing about and start reading. Or go for coffee with a friend and ask a dozen really good questions."
