Ninety-Nine Glimpses of Princess Margaret
I don’t quite get what I wanted out of this, and I think it was the structure. Brown delivers exactly what the title suggests, 99 brief chapters that literally give just a glimpse of an event or situation in Princess Margaret’s life. There’s no sustained effort to tie them together into a narrative, and the brevity of them meant that the proportion of words spent on citing sources often felt like it outnumbered the vignette. It’s clear she was a complex and difficult person, but I don’t feel like this did her justice.
