My kindergartner and I are studying the stone age in our homeschool before we dive into the ancient world at the start of next school year. This book has a strong emphasis on one of her favorite stone age topics - cave art - and it inspired her to create some cave paintings of her own using oil pastels on a brown paper bag. We're using this in conjunction with A Picturesque Tale of Progress: Beginnings I, which tells more of a story about what might have happened to a few families of progressively more sophisticated cave people, and with The Golden Book of Cavemen and Prehistoric People, which she chose at a recent book sale, and which has a greater emphasis on the science of evolution. These three books are a great set for giving a child a good sense of what we know about the stone age.
