As this wonderful story opens, Andy Barber, a former assistant attorney is being questioned in front of the grand jury. We know something terrible has happened.

Andy had been a successful assistant district attorney in suburban Massachusetts for years. As the story progresses, things begin to unravel in his life.

His son, Jacob, is accused of murder but Andy thinks this is nonsense. Andy is in charge of investigating the murder of a student at Jacob's school. Andy's deliberate approach in solving the crime looks to others as if he's not giving the case his full attention. Some feel he should have given the case to another assistant DA due to a possilbe conflict of interest.

Neal Logiudice is an ambitious attorney at Andy's office and he gives enought evidence that Andy is taken off the case and put on administrative leave.

Fans of Sctoo Turow will be entertained by this courtroom mystery. William Landay is an excellent storyteller and the dialogue is exceptional.

The concluding moments of this novel are such that the reader will need to catch their breath after reading it.

This is a powerful novel that shouldn't be missed.
