As usual I was gripped while reading this, but when it all came to an end I found myself feeling unsatisfied. The loose ends didn't all tie up neatly, and I think the spanking pace masked a muddled design. It wasn't always clear whose point of view we were in. Thinking back, I still don't know what some things were about. The business about Scarpetta's phone was an anticlimax, and what about the runner's watch? Was it connected to Chardonne or not? And if it was, why was it left on her?
