In the last decade or so, I've seen an increasing number of short story collections in which authors of a particular genre are asked to write a genre story around a particular theme. In this book, the genre is "urban fantasy" - a fantasy narrative in an urban setting - and the theme is cities.

The tales in this book are very diverse, and somewhat inconsistent in quality. I picked it up for the Jim Butcher story, ”Curses,” where Harry Dresden investigates how to lift a curse laid by the Fair Folk on the Chicago Cubs. A five star story in a three star book. Several of the others are quite good: (Patricia Briggs' "Fairy Gifts" and Melissa Marr’s “Guns for the Dead.” some i found tedious or too tinged in the horror genre for my taste.
