Before: Woo Hoo! If this one is as great as the first, I'm in for a treat!

After: Well, it wasn't. The novel itself was practically anemic--good, but an underdeveloped sketch. The footnotes & etc. were bloated. I like footnotes, but this was too much. And, while I sympathize with the author's eco-concerns, I think he'd have more results with a subtle touch rather than beating readers over the head with an axe. There was a lot of authorial intrusion to the story--I feel like Bazell, the character, was stronger than Peter/Lionel, the character. I'd prefer that toned back in the next one, because frankly I like Peter/Lionel more.

I'm probably up for another book because I like Bazell's style, but I'd like to see a stronger story and less of a novella w/footnotes.

'Beat the Reaper' is really great if you haven't read it already. Be sure and read it before this one.
