really liked it
bookshelves: farm-life, goats, memoir

This book is more than Jennifer's story about foreclosure forcing her family into a dilapidated Appalachian cabin, where they explore and adjust to a new life. It is a book for any woman who faces a mid-life change of pace, especially when it is not of her choosing.

Jennifer touches on themes that are common to women: losing trust in others and yourself, longing for another life (past or future), questioning a marriage, children growing up and leaving the nest, adapting to unexpected life circumstances. She generously shares her heart with the reader, not glossing over the uncomfortable parts.

Her writing style is lyrical and lush. Readers who are familiar with Appalachia will especially appreciate her descriptions of culture and landscape.
