This book took a little while to really get moving, but I enjoyed it a lot. Although the story itself is a work of fiction, similar stories undoubtedly unfolded throughout the South during Freedom Summer. The role that white men and women played in this is both astonishing, shameful, and eye-opening. Ultimately, while Freedom Summer did not have huge success, it was a step in the right direction and one so desperately needed by the oppressed.
