The Magician King from The Magicians series by Lev Grossman is a good story and an infuriating story!

This time there are two stories, that run side by side - Quentin's quest to be a hero and Julia's life after her failed exam in Brakebills.

After Julia had failed her exam, she didn't entirely forget her visit to Brakebills, as she was supposed to, and that made her life from that moment on a living hell - she was obsessed with magic and when she finally found others like her and she learned more about magic that she had ever dreamed of, she understood what she was really looking for, but by then it was already too late.

Quentin, Eliot, Julia and Janet have been living an leisure life in Fillory for two years now, but suddenly something starts to change and just a short trip to some distant island throws Quentin and Julia into a quest, that could cost them their lives and lives of every magical world and being, or they could save them all.

So all of this is really interesting and really enchanting and really reminds a lot of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, so what makes it so infuriating? The ending. The understanding, that hero is the one who risks all, who looses all and who will not have the chance to enjoy his winnings. That the ones who didn't even believe the hero, who didn't even want to be where he has longed to be all his life got to stay there and he has to go on fighting and prove himself once again. That's not fair! Well, life is not fair, I know it, but still. So the infuriating part is all part of the book and without it there would be no third book.

A good read!
