it was amazing

Part biography, part cultural history, and written by one of the leading fantasists writing today, this is a must read for any self-identifying geek.

I will admit the book is heavy on the 'inside baseball' side as it assumes that the reader has 1) heard the radio show; 2) read the books; 3) watched the BBC TV series. If you haven't the books makes no sense. However, if you meet these criteria then you will be delighted to read about the travails that accompanied the writing and marketing of what has become a unique phenomenon. Students who were not born until after the entire series had been published are still huge fans as evidenced when I asked a class for an answer to a question and one student shouted out, "42".

I still end every semester with a final lecture slide that says, "So long and thanks for all the fishes."
