really liked it
bookshelves: audiobook, historical-fiction, short-stories

This is a fascinating little tale. I had really never heard of the reeducation process in China and was really unfamiliar with the background politics and history. At times during the story I would forget that it was set in the 1970s because the conditions were so seemingly untouched by modernization. The role that literature plays in the lives of the characters highlighted something that I really take for granted as an American. The story provided a window into this different time and way of life.

As a side note, I loved B.D. Wong's narration on the audiobook.
