Brontosaurus: Memoir of a Sex Life
I wasn't entirely prepared for how much I was going to like this and how powerful it would be. The first 18 pages alone (about being raped at 19) had me wracked with emotion. There's some shocking and revealing stuff about the life of this long-time Portland poet throughout the whole book (including, yes--some great tidbits of Portland poetry scene history) and it's fueled by a poet's bravado and fearless honesty. This is published by a very small press in Portland and I fear it may be overlooked in the grand scheme of great local authors and books but let me tell you--if you like Lidia Yuknavitch's Chronology of Water and/or Cheryl Strayed's upcoming memoir, Wild, you should read this too. Fantastic.
