Recommended by kids for NYRA 2013, this is a beautifully illustrated and written story about two rescues that took place at the same time. Grace, the lighthouse keeper's daughter, helps his father rescue the people from a shipwreck nearby, while Gracie, the lighthouse cat, rescues her little kitten accidentally thrown into the raging waters of a storm. The main drama evolves around the kitten rescue while, in the background, the reader can see through the illustrations the shipwreck victims being rescued. Great illustrations and text. When my kids were little, I read them "The Big Sneeze", by the same author, over and over again.
