it was amazing

A rich historical novel that sucks you in like the dark depths of New York harbour’s waters. Anna’s father goes missing in wartime America, while working at the docks, she pursues her dream of becoming a diver and falls in with a gangster who may know more about her father than he’s willing to let on. The acknowledgments show just how much research went into this book, but the prose wears the research so lightly, leading with character first, rather than technical detail.
