I must be getting terribly critical. Another "1001" book that I did not enjoy! And yet back in the late 60s , I loved Graham Greene's novels. Perhaps when I was just turning 30 years old and influenced by the good changes in the Church implemented during Vatican II, I identified more with Greene's struggles with Catholicism. Nowadays struggling seems like a waste of energy. I accept where I am on spiritual path. But I when I do not like the characters, it is difficult to like a book. Of course, if the plot or writing style grabs me, I eagerly keep reading. Not the case here. Just read to learn the ending. Not sure about the death of... (won't spoil for readers of this review!).
