really liked it
bookshelves: adult, historical-fiction, romance, single-mother, widow
Recommended for: Overcoming past romance requests

A young widow, Phoebe doesn't feel up to re-entering soceity, but agrees to attend a family wedding. There she meets the school bully of her husband. However, she has to admit that he has changed, he is wonderful with her children and causes her to have feelings which she rather not admit.

West, had thoughr he would never marry. He thought his childhood and black past made too much of an obstacle.

More of a 3.5. Rounded up because I enjoyed the hypocrisy of what society "sees" as a good match vs. what Phoebe sees.
