it was amazing
bookshelves: 21st-century-fiction, bought2019, scifi

I hate to admit it but I didn't like Discovery nearly as much as I was hoping for, for many reasons. But I love Una's writing so I got this one anyway and I'm so glad I did. Una wrote such wonderful characterisation of Tilly. She was interesting and complex. She really captured the struggling youth trying to figure out her own way in the world and how to find out how she could do the things she wanted, how to fit in, how to explain any of that to her parents. It was all done beautifully. The story was in three different sections, all wonderful. The last one really showed how wonderful the star trek universe really is (probably more than the tv show if I'm honest). The last few pages had my crying.

And as an extra bonus THERE WAS A QUEER WOMAN STARSHIP CAPTAIN AND SHE DIDN'T DIE!!!! Male bigfinish writers please take note!!!!! Instead she just had a crush on Tilly's grandmother which was all kinds of brilliant!

Definitely recommended.
