The writing is smooth and easy to read, the characters have that ring of reality to them that's so important and the book doesn't get lost in its universe. On the downside it reads more like a string of events and less like a plot. It was clearly set up with a series in mind.

The main conflict plays hide and seek and I was never quite sure what it was until it came roaring out of nowhere towards the end. To put it simply there was a lot going on at once and the focus never really settles on one thing.

Makes for a good summer read/beach book. Entertaining enough to keep me interested and left me with a smile. Probably not one that's really reread-worthy, but good enough that I'm looking forward to the next one.
