Spalding's attempt at a novel. Semi-autobiographical. It explores his mother’s suicide and how it tormented him. He ultimately committed suicide himself. Better to read (or watch) Monster in a Box, the performance piece he did in the early 90s (which I saw live in NYC). It’s about his struggle with writing the novel (it’s the monster on the title) and very funny.
