it was amazing

Absolutely loved it. Kinda had a few hangups on the whole premise of genetic memory, but the story more than made up for that implausibility.

Carrie McClelland is researching her new novel set during the time when the Jacobites are trying to restore King James to the throne. She originally planned to have it set in France, but changes her mind when she sees the ruins of Slains Castle while visiting Scotland. She names her heroine after an ancestor and after that the story just seems to come to her in dreams. After each scene she writes she comes across research that confirm the facts in her story.

The two parallel stories dovetail nicely into each other, and each are sweet love stories, and the historical bit is fascinating.
