it was amazing
bookshelves: 2012, ya, kick-ass-heroines, 5-stars-2012, amazing-worldbuilding, dragons, favorites-2011-2012, simply-perfection
Read from July 16 to 17, 2012

After centuries of distrust and war, humans and dragons reached an agreement. Dragons can coexist with humans by taking human form and following a set of rules. Not everybody was happy with this arrangement, humans were fearful of dragons, and dragons felt superior than humans, however, all of them agreed with one thing: Humans and Dragons should not mix, ever.

This is the story of a girl, Seraphina, with and extraordinary talent for music and … a big secret. With the agreement hanging by a thread, and her own secrets at risk to be exposed, Seraphina joins Prince Lucian Kiggs in the journey to uncover the truth behind a Prince’s murder, the city’s riots and the lost dracomachia. What she discovers will change everyone’s perspective and, hopefully, help bring the peace back between the two races.

What I loved about this book:

--Fantasy 100% The world, music, religion, mythology, the creatures, artifacts …

--The Dragons: The idea that they can change into humans and become scholars at universities is pretty good, also that they are empty of emotions (yeah … right). Anyway, they are like Big Bang Theory’s Sheldon, yep that kind of humor, like

“There are unseen forces that act upon all of us, all the time, and they act in predictable ways. If I were to drop you from this tower”—here she shook me, and the city spun, a vortex ready to swallow me up—“your falling form would accelerate at a rate of thirty-two feet per second squared. So would my hat; so did your shoes. We are all pulled toward our doom in exactly the same way, by exactly the same force.” She meant gravity—dragons aren’t good at metaphor—but her words resonated with me more personally.

--Heroine: She never annoyed me, and the fact that not everything is about her love life is refreshing. Ahhh and the girl has some initiative, that’s a bonus!!!

--No love triangle … ok there is one but it’s not your usual love triangle where the heroine can’t decide between the abs and the spakly skin. Let’s call it a duty-love-triangle :P

--The world inside Seraphina’s head!!! LOL at first all I could think about when she was attending her garden was Linkin Park’s song Papercut .

--The characters … all of them … I loved all of them, the grotesques pick my curiosity …

What I missed:
--I was left with lots and lots of questions at the end.
--More insight on the dragons.

Mags~CVAddikt~ I'm loving the dragons, they remind me of Sheldon (Big Bang Theory) and that's good ... really.
