Returning to her hometown after the funeral of her parents Erica Falck discovers the body of her childhood friend in a tub of ice water with her wrist slit. As she and local detective Patrick Hedstrom follow the case it becomes apparent that this was not a suicide but a murder. The investigation digs into the past of the victims family and friends only to discover some evils of long ago such as an unexplained pregnancy and child abuse.

The story held my interest and the characters were good, my only problem was that this is the first of a series and the author introduced a lot of story lines and left them hanging which will probably be explored in the next several books. I wish she would have finished all the story lines that she started. This series could become a soap opera. I hope not
