As the tenth in the Midnight Breed series, this book doesn't lose steam as the hero, Sterling Chase, finds himself hunted by the law and attracted to the aide of a powerful senator.

Sterling chase is a Breed (vampire). He is one of the Order whose mission is to protect human kind, keep their vampire existence secret, and eliminate the dangerous and ambitious Dragos. Dragos is a powerful vampire who plans world domination and threatens vampires and humans alike. Virtually unchecked, he has minions (humans under his complete control) in powerful places, among them a senator. Dragos also has dangerous genetically engineered super Gen One vampires exclusively under his control. His adversary is Lucan the leader of the Order. In the last book, Chase tried to assassinate Dragos but instead finds himself under investigation by humans. The problem? Chase is under bloodlust. He cannot control his craving for blood and when he crosses over, he will eventually go mad. Realizing he is on the brink of sanity, he plans to take Dragos down before he goes completely insane. But his salvation may be in the unlikely hands of a mysterious woman who attracts him.

Tavia is the personal assistant to Senator Clarence. But lately she has been wondering about the strange changes in the senator's behavior. When the senator is put in danger, Tavia finds herself trying to figure out what is really going on and soon finds herself kidnapped by a handsome madman who haunts her dreams. Dragged into a murky and dangerous world where she will become a major player, Tavia is shocked by betrayals and secrets that will make her question her existence and all she has ever known.

This book was a thrilling adrenaline rush! The author wastes no time as she steamrolls the hero in dangerous circumstances. Although this is the tenth in the Breed series, it can be read by itself. However, since many characters return and the author builds upon each book, starting with this book first would be a great disservice to the reader. Chase is on his own, hunted and under his nearly uncontrolled blood lust. It is by chance when he saves and finds an undeniable passion with the surprising Tavia, where he finds unlikely salvation. (Tavia has a terrible disease whose origins are shrouded in mystery and plays a large part in this exciting storyline.) I particularly enjoyed reading about Chase because the author has really built up his character throughout the books - from an austere golden boy with an unrequited love for his sister-in-law to a virtually insane Breed on the brink of madness. I also liked that the author revisits her other characters including the leader of the Order, Lucan. It is heartwarming to read about the rest of the Breeds and their mates. It is especially intriguing to learn more about Jenna. Jenna is a mate to a Breed but she has strange alien DNA that causes her to black out into a seemingly alternate world/past. I feel that Jenna's story is not done and will play an even more important role in future books as the Breed explores their origins and search for the genetic experiments created by the evil Dragos.

I was really surprised by the end of this book and fans of this series will finds themselves mesmerized by the ever evolving storyline and greatly anticipating the next book in this fascinating paranormal series.
