Somewhat ambivalent on this one. The story is heartbreaking on so many levels. I loved the aspects that revealed historical background, the caste system, the move to Indian independence, etc. But I was appalled at Vairum’s treatment of his mother Sivakami and it broke my heart. Quite the family epic, with all the love and dysfunction that might be expected, further complicated by centuries of rigid cultural strictures.
