really liked it
bookshelves: crime

There is some painful and triggering content in this story(rape, murder, and pedophilia feature strongly and dramatically on the page in the opening chapters), but it's a fascinating look at a family breaking into all their different ways of coping with the grief of horrifically losing a family member.

I like the highly unusual POV of it being from the murdered family member's perspective as she watches them all from heaven. The concept of her heaven was different and interesting, especially the 'case worker' style character, who TBH I really wanted more of.

While most of the ending was satisfying, (view spoiler)

There was that one line about dilated pupils looking like 'ferocious olives' which had me cackling tho. I am going to be laughing about little fanged olives swimming around trying to leap out of peoples martini glasses to bite them on the nose for months.

Overall, an interesting read, but emotionally tough content.
