This novella is a prequel to a promising new series taking place in Anchorage, Alaska.

Vampires are not only real but humans are aware of their existence and are accepting due in large part to their ability to help out in a failing economy but their altered energy field fries most technology. So they are forced to rely on old fashion human messenger couriers like Sidney Kildare.
Being a messenger for vampires is a dangerous job. Hazardous road conditions, creepy clients, competitors trying to intercept messages by using vampire mind control and all of this is done in the dark. Sidney is especially good at her job because she’s immune to vampire mind tricks. This makes her valuable but at the same time makes her a target. All she wants is to do her job, keep her head down and make enough money to move away from the long hours of darkness, to a tropical, vampire free island of sun.

But when Sidney is targeted by rival vampires fighting for control of territories, her only ally is handsome Malcolm Kelly, who keeps showing up whenever she’s in trouble. Caught in the middle of a vampire turf war, Sydney has to count on Malcolm to help her survive.

This is a brilliant concept for a vampire story, a fascinating new world that caught my attention quickly. It felt like a great combination of an urban fantasy and paranormal romance. There’s a lot of fast paced action, some steamy sex scenes, all set in an exciting new world, told from Sidney’s POV. I’m really looking forward to reading more of this series.

Highly recommend to vampire fans looking for something new and fresh.
