it was amazing
bookshelves: theology

This was a challenging read for me. Both intellectually, and personally. I love that it is a theology with real practical implications for me and how I live and work.

I read it having formerly read Tom Wright's "Surprised by Hope" and it does help to read both (in any order I suspect). I have also just finished Bailey's "Jesus through Middle Eastern Eyes" and these two also are a good complementary read.

Don't read this book if you want to simply reinforce your own theological assumptions. It is challenging to many traditional views of scripture, both protestant and beyond.

What I especially love is that it gives a missional perspective. Especially the quote: "the Church exists by mission as a fire exists by burning" (Emil Bruner).
